I myself purchased a n800 before the N810 came out. I agree that the N810 is better. I run DWcomputing.com and I can sell or your readers an N800 for $256.56 and a N810 for $438.37. My email is DenilWickrama at [the dot com website listed above]. I may even be able to work out a deal exchanging some of your bestbuy gift cards towards your N810 purchase. Send me an email and we can talk.

@ Jacob, Dave, Trey

I have looked at the n800, and I like the n810 better. I want it for the keyboard, and the gps. If it doesn't replace my broken mp3 player, broken gps, and provide me a pda, I can't rationalize buying it. Furthermore, it does come with a faster processor and more memory, and I can't picture myself buying 2 SD cards for it anyway. While the gps apparently takes a while to link, it also apparently never loses its link -- in which case, what does it matter?

@Aaron, thanks for the links. I didn't see anyone willing to trade for a > 250 gift card to best buy, and I don't particularly want to do anything more active like auction or post a trade. I guess I'll wait a little while to see if Best Buy comes to its senses, and take more drastic measures if need be.

@anonymous, not a long time reader I take it?

Please do not buy products from Microsoft if you care about open source. We may not have a choice as to where our tax money goes when the government gets it, but we do have a choice where our money goes when it comes to purchasing retail products. Do not support that company!

There are a few websites out there that let you trade gift cards for the store you want:

http://www.cardavenue.com/
http://www.plasticjungle.com/

I have yet to use one yet, if you do post back so I know how it worked out..

With the bad reviews of the GPS, loss of the memory slot, and the change to miniSD, I bought the N800 and a GPS. I love it and have had no issues, so if the keyboard is a killer I would say get it, but I would get the N800 otherwise.

Agreed. The n800 is a sweet deal at ~$220 shipped. Of course, gps isn't much of a feature for me, and the onscreen keyboard of the n800 is very serviceable for me, but many dislike them.

I'm curious why you want to pay the $200 price difference for the N810 over the N800. You lose an SD slot and only gain GPS and a hardware keyboard. The processor speeds, RAM, and OSes are exactly the same in both. If that keyboard is absolutely essential for you, go for it, but IMO the N800 gets you more for your dollar. (Unless you already own an N800 and really want to upgrade.)
